The checklist
- Clothes: a t-shirt or rash guard and shorts or athletic pants with no zippers, buttons or pockets. Ask about a gi when you arrive.
- Water bottle.
- Flip-flops or slides for walking off the mat. Shoes stay off the mat, bare feet stay off the bathroom floor.
- Hair tie if you have long hair.
- Towel and a change of clothes for the drive home.
- Mouthguard (optional, but a good idea once you start rolling).
Leave at home
Jewelry, watches and anything that could scratch or snag. Take out earrings and rings before class.
Hygiene basics
Short, clean fingernails and toenails. Clean clothes every class. If you have a cut, a rash or feel sick, skip class that day. Everyone on the mat will thank you.
