You're not too old
Jiu jitsu rewards technique and patience, and those come with age. Many adult classes have people in their 40s, 50s and beyond, and plenty of them started late.
How to start safely
- Check with your doctor if you have a health condition or old injury.
- Tell your instructor about anything that's bothering you before class.
- Tap early. There's no prize for holding out.
- Pick partners well. Roll with people who train with control.
- Two or three classes a week, with rest days between.
What you get out of it
Strength, mobility, a sharper mind, and a group of people you see every week. Many people say it's the first workout they've actually looked forward to.
